Melinda Commanda is an Ojibway woman and a member of the Serpent River First Nation. She has a history of sharing her knowledge and skills that assist women to empower themselves. Her extensive career and education have given her the ability to work in a variety of areas. Background in social work before going to university to change career path. While completing her Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree she also took many native studies courses. She has continued her education by participating in workshops and on-going training activities that have added to her strengths. She has experience working as an employee or as an independent consultant for Indigenous organizations and for the government. She has also volunteered, and continues to volunteer with a variety of non-profit organizations either as a board member, chairperson or an advocate. Raised in the city of Toronto but she has lived her adult life primarily in Northern Ontario. She enjoys crafting, gardening and being a grandmother.
